Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Claims Involving Player the Athlete
The NFL franchise issued a statement Wednesday night indicating they have knowledge of claims of abuse circulated in social media posts by a ex-partner of wide receiver the athlete and were in communication with the league office.
The organization did not mention the player specifically in their statement and noted they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Social Media
The woman, who also did not mention Rice by name, shared a set of images on Instagram that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. She did say the individual in question was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has two children with the football player, whom the team selected in the second round.
Police Reports Currently Unavailable
No police reports were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have occurred.
Rice's Prior Legal Issues
Rice was absent for the initial part of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his role in causing a crash on a Texas roadway that left several individuals hurt. Rice was given a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to felony charges.
Statistically, he finished the season with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs finished 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first time in a decade.
